Specifications
Birmingham Plating Company will only plate steel components.
Assemblies that contain disimiliar metals will not be accepted for
plating.
In the interest of Customer Satisfaction the following information
is vital:
- a full description of the finish required e.g. "Bright
Zinc Plate + Yellow Chromate + Lacquer Seal Coat".
- the coating thickness - expressed as minimum, average
or on occasion an upper limit e.g. "Bright Chrome
Plate - minimum nickel thickness 10 um" or use an ISO,
BS, EN standard(s) to specify the correct finish.
- he material and its initial surface condition - the
degree and type of soiling from casting, drawing, machining
operations e.t.c. can cause faults in the final finish.
- its dimensions and tolerances - these should be revealed
before any final agreement has been reached.
- the significant surfaces - surfaces that must be covered
by coating.
- any pre or post-plating treatments required - polishing,
hydrogen de-embitterment treatment e.t.c.
- the appearance required and the acceptable position for
contact marks - demanding no marks will greatly increase
the cost of electroplating.
- estimated batch size and frequency
- containers and packaging for transport
- inspection procedures
- any performance testing required - these tests will
slow down the release of finished parts e.g: specifying
that parts must resist a minimum of 96 hours Neutral Salts
Spray, will mean that parts will not be available for delivery
until at least 5 days after they have been electroplated.
Remember they may be called accelerated tests but they do
not take place in a "Time Machine"
